The federal government will launch, in the first half of February, a national plan for railway development. The information was released this Thursday (23) by the Minister of Transport, Renan Filho.
“I had a first conversation with President Lula, presenting him the project portfolio. The president approved it and we are organizing to launch it in the first days of February. In the first fortnight of February”, he said.
“We will publicize the projects, discuss them with the market and investors. It will be super relevant because it is very necessary for us to remove cargo and place it on the railways to avoid the road conflicts that Brazil still experiences”, he added.
In an interview with radio stations, during the program Good morning, Ministerproduced by Brazilian Communication Company (EBC), Renan Filho assessed that it is necessary to remove railways from within Brazilian cities and central areas of the country.
“You arrive in São Paulo, the MRS train, loaded with ore, passes through the center, next to the market. A railway passes there. That is incongruous with a city the size of São Paulo. We increasingly need to review this.”
“You can’t change completely because they [as ferrovias] They were built at a different time, they make a lot of curves and, with these curves, you can’t increase speed. If it doesn’t have speed, it won’t compete with buses, trucks and vans. It’s a complex job, it requires heavy, massive public investment”, he concluded.
