Former candidate for Mayor of Montevideo and president of the Montevideo Department of the National Party, Laura Raffo, took a walk through the interior of the country in recent days, making an appearance at important events, such as the Paysandú Beer Week. He was seen with leaders of the National Alliance sector, which can be seen as a step towards a possible agreement for the 2024 national elections.
During his visit, Raffo met with Jorge Larranaga Vidal, militant of Alianza Nacional and son of the late former Minister of the Interior, Jorge Larrañaga; also with the senator from San José, Carlos Camyand the mayor sanducero Nicholas Olivera.
Raffo understands that the movement he is forming has representation of people from the metropolitan area and the interior and from different currents of the party.
Raffo affirmed that they are in talks with Alianza Nacional and with Herrerismo, and that they have a very good relationship with both. The idea is to build a broad movement that represents the needs of the people, and not just power itself. There are no official announcements yet, but the talks are on the right track.
For his part, Larrañaga explained that his political sector is carrying out regional meetings to gather the opinion of the leadership and know the reality in their territorial constituency. Alianza is a collective project, so consultation with all colleagues is very important. They are in dialogue and will take their time to make a decision.
Raffo wants to cover a lot
Raffo emphasized the need for the movement he is forming to have representation of people from the metropolitan area and the interior and from different currents of the party. According to the leader, her goal is to build a broad and comprehensive movement that represents the needs of the people.
He is one of the figures that sounds the most in the internal race of the PN to compete for the place to contend for the presidency of the Republic in the next elections. The ruling party is hit hard by severe cases of corruption, and has little chance according to the most recent surveys.
