Report from the bunker
In March 2023, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador changed the Treasury Room for the security bunker of Genaro García Luna to hold his morning conference.
“There was a lot of arrogance in everything, a lot of excesses. That this is a matter that does not correspond to what the administration of justice should be, seeking to advance in the pacification of the country, if not too extravagant, very expensive, thus, spectacular, like something out of a movie. They just go to see the tunnel and it is impressive… national and foreign visitors came here, and it was pure nonsense. There was no work to pacify Mexico, it was pure facade and very expensive.
“You’re going to see what it cost, of course direct assignments, without bidding,” is how the president defined the space where former Security Secretary García Luna operated.
Absence due to covid-19
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the president had to be absent after contracting Covid-19: in January 2021, López Obrador reported that he tested positive, so he had to isolate himself.
His place at the press conference was taken by the then Secretary of the Interior, Olga Sánchez Cordero.
The Secretary of the Interior was in charge of giving the report on the president’s health status.
A year later, in January 2022, the president was infected with Covid-19 again, as he then confirmed on his social networks: “I inform you that I am infected with Covid-19 and, although the symptoms are mild, I will remain in isolation. and I will only do office work and communicate virtually until I get ahead.”
The then Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, led the morning conferences.
In April 2023, the president was infected for the third time, so he again had to stop attending his conference: “No way, friends: I tested positive for COVID-19. It’s not serious. My heart is 100 and, since I had to suspend the tour, I am in Mexico City and from afar I celebrate Jesús Ernesto’s 16 years. I’ll save myself a few days. Adán Augusto López Hernández will lead the morning sessions. See you soon”.
AMLO sings “My way” with IA
In his press conference, the president presented a clip created with artificial intelligence, where he sings “A mi forma”, by Vicente Fernández.
“We apologize but, speaking of artificial intelligence, why don’t you put up a video of artificial intelligence where I sing ‘My way’; They are going to see what artificial intelligence is, supposedly; I saw it yesterday and it made me laugh,” said the president, seconds before the lyrics were heard in the Treasury room performed with a recreation of his voice.
