Santo Domingo.- The Superintendent of Electricity, Rafael Velazco Espaillat, resigned from his position yesterday, Sunday, through a letter addressed to President Luis Abinader.

In the letter, dated July 31, Velazco Espaillat does not explain the reasons why he also resigned as president of the Council of the Superintendency of Electricity, but stated that he was at the disposal of the President.

“By means of this letter, I formally resign from my position as Superintendent of Electricity and President of the Council of the Superintendence of Electricity effective today, Sunday, July 31, 2022, at 8 am,” the letter says.

It is recalled that recently the head of the SIE was involved in questions and criticism after the salary increase applied to officials and collaborators of the entity, moments in which the population complains about the “abusive” increase in the electricity bill.
