The National Prosecutor, Delia Espinoza, decided to remove the prosecutor Rafael Vela of the coordination of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Offices in Money Laundering Crimes and in his place he has appointed the supreme deputy prosecutor Mirko Cano Gamero. The decision of this change was made official and published in the Legal Standards section of the official newspaper El Peruano.
In addition, the supreme prosecutor Mirko Cano Gamero will also have the coordination of the prosecutor’s offices specialized in crimes of corruption of officials and domain extinction.
This restructuring seeks to standardize investigative criteria, optimize resources and improve efficiency in fiscal responses in order to “guarantee effective results in the prosecution of crimes.”
“The Prosecutor’s Offices Specialized in Asset Forfeiture, the Prosecutor’s Offices Specialized in Money Laundering Crimes and the Prosecutor’s Offices Specialized in Crimes of Corruption of Officials, carry out work that includes attention to complex cases that maintain close links, which require comprehensive, planned approaches. and coordinated to guarantee effective results in the prosecution of crimes that seriously affect the rights of citizens and the security of the State, this circumstance highlights the need to unify efforts and strengthen strategies,” the statement reads; publication.
“In addition, it will allow a better articulation of functions between the different tax offices, maximizing the positive impact of their actions and ensuring a more efficient, coherent and aligned response with social demands.”
In addition to Rafael Vela, the other prosecutors who are leaving their positions are:
- Milagros Díaz Ramos in the National Coordination of the Prosecutor’s Offices Specialized in Crimes of Corruption of Officials and Coordination in Crimes of Corruption of Officials of Lima.
- Elma Sonia Vergara Cabrera, in the Temporary Superior Prosecutor’s Office for Domain Forfeiture of Lima, and as national coordinator of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Offices for Domain Forfeiture
- Rony Del Aguila Gonzales, as provisional senior prosecutor of the Loreto Fiscal District and in the office of the Second Superior Criminal Prosecutor’s Office of Loreto.
- Hagler Luis Manuel Caballero Mego, as provisional senior deputy prosecutor of the Loreto Fiscal District and in the office of the Fourth Superior Criminal Prosecutor’s Office of Loreto.
This change redefines the future of Rafael Vela within the Public Ministry, who will now be focused solely on the coordination of the Lava Jato cases.
