Rafael Tudares was missing for 285 days: Edmundo González demands proof of life from his son-in-law

The opposition leader Edmundo González Urritia demanded this Sunday, October 19, proof of life from his son-in-law Rafael Tudares who He served 285 days in detention and his whereabouts are unknown, according to his wife, Mariana González.

“United as a family, we demand proof of life from my son-in-law Rafael Tudares!” the opponent published on his X account, in response to his daughter’s claim. “I will continue fighting for your freedom, “I will continue to demand justice for Rafael.”reads the account @MarianaGTudares.

Tudares’ wife has insisted on multiple occasions that he was arbitrarily detained last January and, since then, has not been able to verify his true whereabouts, nor his physical integrity and health conditions.

Various human rights organizations have warned that the case of Tudares Bracho meets the elements of a forced disappearance, practice considered a crime against humanity under international law.

For Mariana González, her husband “was unjustly trapped and is a victim” of the political conflict, which also led to Edmundo González, his father, went into exile in September of last year in Spain, from where he claims the presidency of Venezuela.

845 political prisoners

The non-governmental organization Foro Penal updated its balance of political prisoners in Venezuela last Thursday, counting a total of 845 people arrested until October 13, 2025.

Among those detained there are 672 men, 103 women, 4 adolescents and 97 citizens with dual nationality or foreigners. Of them, 689 remain detained without conviction, many under prolonged preventive detention, in contravention of the law and international law. In addition, 37 people are in a situation of forced disappearance.
