Rafael Lopez Aliaga announced that he will resign from his position as mayor of Lima and will present his resignation on October 13 at 3:00 in the afternoon. The news was announced in the program ‘The Value of Truth‘, after being asked if he was going to resign from the Mayor’s Office of Lima.
Hours before, the candidate for the Presidency of the Republic held an event called ‘Accountability 2025’ in the Exhibition Park, where he used a minor to once again violate the principle of neutrality of the Organic Law of Elections, since he deliberately made him ask him to be president of the Republic. Likewise, during his speech at said ceremony he stated that he does not leave the Municipality of Lima in debt and that, on the contrary, there is a budget for his austerity policy. This must be corroborated by the Comptroller’s Office and the following management.

Rafael López Aliaga justifies his candidacy
The still mayor of Lima explained that after the attempted attack who suffered a few days ago at a public event, a nun approached the Municipality of Lima and gave her a piece of paper with the following phrase: “Assume your responsibility in the name of the Virgin Mary.” This would have been the impetus that convinced López Aliaga to run for the Presidency of the Republic.
To his spiritual commentary, he added a more factual fact. He explained that he made this decision due to the “absence of people who could do it better” than him. He reported that after presenting his resignation forms, he will also report on his management to the Metropolitan Council of Lima.

The resignation of López Aliaga begins a transition process. In accordance with the provisions of the Organic Law of Municipalities, the Deputy Mayor Renzo Reggiardo He will be the one who temporarily assumes the leadership of the Municipality of Lima. This will only be until the Metropolitan Council of Lima makes the vacancy official and, subsequently, elects a new owner to complete the 2023-2026 management period.
