The President of the Radical Party (PR), Leonardo Cubillos, lamented the presence of radicals in the so-called “Center-Left for Rejection” group and that this Saturday they made themselves known to public opinion.
The helmsman stressed that the Radical Party is a community that, since its foundation 158 years ago, has been on the path of social change and that this will not be the opportunity to opt for a different path.
“I personally regret that there are radicals who have formed this movement and I regret it because the starting point should not be in the 1980 Constitution. A Constitution that was already delegitimized with the 2020 Plebiscite, a Constitution that protected the violation of the Human Rights, the lack of opportunities and of course the inequalities”, pointed out the radical helmsman.
Cubillos stressed that next August 11 the General Council of the community must be held to institutionally ratify the “I approve” option.
“I have no doubt that radicalism in its National Council is going to adopt the Approve vote, because Approve unites Chile, allows us to advance in the transformations that our country requires, delivering dignity, democracy, regionalization, parity, respect for the environment and fundamental rights. That is why I have no doubt that radicalism will be in your National Council for that option and that is why I invite you to vote I Approve to unite Chile,” he closed.
The initiative seeks to “claim the right to choose this option for those who are for a new Constitution, but not for the one proposed by the Constitutional Convention.” The groups “Yellows for Chile”, “Una que nos Una”, “Neither this one nor the Previous one”, “Rejection for a Better” and “Movimiento Proyecta” participated in the launch, as well as figures from the DC and the Radical Party.
The representative of Amarillos por Chile, Cristián Warnken, explained to the press that “hopefully the Rejection is as plural as possible, we are respectful of all sectors. But our Rejection is not a right-wing Rejection, we are part of a history that defeated the right in the military dictatorship, in the transition to democracy. Our Rejection is a different Rejection, it is a Rejection that comes from another history.”
From the PR, the former president of the community, Carlos Maldonado, defended the platform of political and social coordination and pointed out that “it is for those of us who voted NO on 88, I approve of 2020, and this time we will vote Rejection, because we want a new Constitution, but a good, that it works well, that it unites us, not that it divides us”.
“Here we are, from the center-left, ratifying our commitment to the Rejection, to give us a new opportunity to achieve a good new constitution for Chile in unity,” added Senator DC Matías Walker.
Senator Ximena Rincón (DC) also spoke about it: “Because we fought to recover democracy and we said No to Pinochet, because we deployed so that he would win this process of a new constitution and because what they propose to us from the CC divides us and does not build the House of All we are going to say No on 9/4 we will vote Rejection “.
For their part, the ex-conventional Beatriz Sánchez and Benito Baranda will join the “Two Million Houses for the Approval” this afternoon, deploying in the community of Puente Alto. This with the purpose of combating disinformation after pamphlets with false information were detected in Puente Alto and that were located with the logo of the Convention also in Los Angeles, Talca and Curicó.
“What is repeated the most, and I take advantage of saying that it is totally false, is that people are going to take away their houses. It is super good to be able to go door to door to clarify all the falsehoods and misinformation that is being installed , even in such a perverse, disastrous way, occupying the logo of the Constitutional Convention itself to scare people, so it will also allow us to arrive with true information,” said former Convention member Beatriz Sánchez.
