Racing continues for the 6th Dragon Boat Festival

Children, youth and adults attended from the early hours of this Saturday, June 25, to enjoy the first day of competitions of the Sixth Dragon Boat Festival 2022 that took place on the Amador Causeway.



This year the Pink Pirates team participated, which came from Cartagena, Colombia in the cancer survivors category as well as the Panamanian team Pink Warriors. They also had the male, female and mixed categories, reported Ciro Loo, technical director and international judge of the races.



Fermín Chan, president of the Panamanian Chinese Cultural Center and the Organizing Committee of the races, invited all Panamanian families to enjoy this ancient and traditional Chinese sports activity that takes place outdoors and is completely free throughout the weekend.

Chan confirmed that the Pan American Dragon Boat Championship will take place from March 16 to 19, 2023, where Panama will be the official venue with the participation of more than 10 countries such as Canada, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas, United States, Argentina and Puerto Rico, Colombia, Chile and Panama, who will run 2,000, 1,000, 500 and 200 meters in different categories.



This Sunday, in the morning hours, the dragon’s eye painting ceremony will be held to wake it up before the races start, and in the afternoon the award ceremony for the winning teams of the dragon boat races.
