Race and Equality invites to the event “Cuba, one year after 11J”

MIAMI, United States.- The International Institute on Race, Equality and Human Rights (Race and Equality) and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) will hold a hybrid event next Monday, July 18 “to promote dialogue and reflection on the situation of human rights in Cuba”, one year after the massive anti-government protests that shook the island on July 11, 2021.

In the event, entitled “Cuba, a year after 11J”, members of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and representatives of Cuban civil society will meet at the IACHR facilities in Washington DC.

In addition, the panel will have the support of Artists at Risk Connection (ARC) of PEN America, PEN International, PEN Cuban Writers in Exile, and Civil Rights Defenders.

Non-governmental and non-profit organization invites to the meetingwhich will take place at 10:00 am (EST), to reflect on what happened in the demonstrations, which were brutally repressed by the government and have left hundreds of political prisoners.

The program “Cuba, a year after 11J” will have as guests Commissioner Edgar Stuardo Ralón, rapporteur of the IACHR for Cuba and on the Rights of Persons Deprived of Liberty and for the Prevention and Combat of Torture; Soledad García Muñoz, Special Rapporteur on Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Human Rights (REDESCA); María Claudia Pulido, Deputy Executive Secretary of IACHR Monitoring; and Cristina Fetterhoff, Director of Programs at the International Institute on Race, Equality and Human Rights.

For their part, Laritza Diversent, director of Cubalex, the Cuban activists Iris Ruiz and Saily González, and the independent journalist Orelvys Cabrera will also participate.
