Quito on red alert issues three sanitary measures

COVID-19 infections have increased by 187% between the penultimate week of December 2021 and the first week of 2022.

On the night of January 18, 2022, the Metropolitan Emergency Operations Committee (COE) declared Quito on red alert.

The measure is taken in view of the increase in positive cases of COVID-19.

The Municipality of Quito reported that the measure will take effect between January 18 and 25, 2022 “and will be reviewed or ratified (…), once the epidemiological report from the Ministry of Health is known.”

The infections by COVID-19 have increased by 187% between the penultimate week of December 2021 and the first of 2022.

Measures

The declaration of Red alert includes three measures:

Public transport: 50% capacity is maintained in peak hours (from 06:00 to 09:30 and from 16:00 to 21:00) and 75% in off-peak hours.

Education: it was proposed to analyze that the municipal educational establishments remain in virtuality until the end of the semester. Promote the vaccination of teachers and students.

Work sessions: the Metropolitan COE urges the Ministry of Labor to reduce face-to-face sessions due to the high number of public entities in the capital.
