Quito mobilizes to help victims of the flood

Foundations, institutions, universities, professionals lend their help to overcome the tragedy that already leaves at least 21 dead.

In social networks, by messages or phone calls, the people of Quito mobilize. They ask for food, water and blankets to deliver to the victims after the flood that mainly affected the areas of La Comuna and La Gasca, in the center-north of the city on January 31, 2022. Others organize themselves to bring machinery, shovels and more people to help in the work of rescuing bodies and cleaning the streets.

Minutes after they were made public the videos of the destruction generated by the mud flood in these areas, people began to share solidarity initiatives.

For example, the Quito Chamber of Commerce (CCQ) asked citizens to leave in their facilities (Amazonas and República Avenues), food non-perishable and Water, clothing Y blankets. Everything will be delivered to those affected. A similar initiative was the Ecuadorian American Chamber of Commerce, who asked people to leave supplies, shovels, painkillers in the CCQ building.

Wilson Merino placed at the disposal of the authorities the facilities of the shelter of the Cecilia Rivadeneira Foundation to care for families affected by the flood of the gasca.
