The National Union of Workers, sellers of pools, bingo halls, games of chance and the like of Paraguay (Sintraquiba), issued a statement on the latest raids carried out by the Public Ministry at the headquarters of the National Commission of Gaming (Conajzar) .
The runners of the pool consider a very important step that the prosecutors María Estefanía González and Osmar Legal have opened a criminal case to make the aforementioned entity transparent and thus eliminate the corruption that has existed for several years in the place.
“The accusations show that the complaints, mobilizations and claims made by all the workers in this area have a solid foundation. The institution that governs gambling is totally permeated by corruption and mismanagement, ”reads part of the statement.
In another part of the text, they question that the Executive Power has not taken any measures despite the serious complaints. Demonstrating a clear disinterest in making the entity transparent.
“We demand that Mario Abdo Benítez, President of the Republic, urgently remove the head of the Conajzar from office, and revoke the illegal award granted to the firms iCrop and TDP immediately, so that he is not jointly responsible or pays the corruption within his government ”, reads the text.
Alicia Gutiérrez, Sitranquiba’s conflict secretary, affirmed that they have two more complaints filed with the Prosecutor’s Office. They are related against Conajzar and against TDP. The first on the irregularities in the concessions of the pool. While the second is about the reductions in the earnings of the workers.
On January 19, the union will hold a demonstration in front of the Palace of Justice. Precisely that day, José Ortiz must testify.
“We have the secretary general who is being persecuted by the representative of TDP. They put profit caps per day. Also threats to quinieleros that if they demonstrate they will lose their jobs ”, he explained.
Senators
The intervention of the Prosecutor’s Office took place after a criminal complaint from three senators; Jorge Querey, Esperanza Martínez and Enrique Bacchetta, the first two from the Guasu Front and the last official Colorado party.
Last Wednesday, both senators of the FG, presented to the Prosecutor’s Office two bibliographies with reports and documentation on more irregularities in the Conajzar. Specifically, it deals with evidence of possible patrimonial damage to the State.
Querey affirmed that, in the face of several corruption scandals, the need to clean up the institutions is imperative. He noted that previously there has been a cloak of impunity over other cases, and that must change.
