Questioned figures integrate lists of the ANR

The two main movements of the Colorado Party, “Force Repúblicana” (officialism) and “Honor Colorado” (Chartism), presented their candidacies for the Senate. Both lists of 45 senators include political actors with records. Below we review the most controversial cases.

CHARTISM
On the “Honor Colorado” list, number two on the list is occupied by Silvio “Beto” Ovelar, current national senator who is seeking re-election. He was an official until mid-2021, when he began to approach Chartism, as Hugo Velázquez, Vice President of the Republic, denounced at the time.

“Beto” Ovelar is questioned by a recording where he is heard trying to buy votes. After the disclosure of these audios, he received the nickname “Apu’a Treatment”.

Position 3 on the list is occupied by the current deputy Basilio “Bachi” Núñez. The same was denounced years ago, by the Prosecutor’s Office for alleged illicit enrichment when he was mayor of Villa Hayes.

He is accused of an alleged embezzlement of G. 6,000 million. The legislator was not imputed for this cause.

In position 6 is Erico Galeano Segovia. The current deputy was splashed after the anti-drug operation “A Ultranza Py” at the beginning of March. In the reports of the Secretariat for the Prevention of Money Laundering (Seprelad), they detail suspicious operations of real estate sales. In addition to payments of large sums to Horacio Cartes, former President of the Republic.

OFFICIALISM
“Republican Force” is not far behind. In his list of 45 senators, he also includes actors who were highly criticized at the time.

In position 8 is Miguel Cuevas. The current deputy was denounced for illicit enrichment and false statement. He has scheduled his oral trial for June 28. He spent seven months in the prison of the Specialized Group. It is estimated that he embezzled around G. 5,000 million.

In position 10 is Javier Zacarías Irún. The current national senator is seeking re-election. He was dismissed from cases that were related to acts of corruption, breach of trust and illicit enrichment. He currently faces a process for false statement, it remains to be defined whether the case goes to trial or not.

In position 14, is Arnaldo Samaniego, he served as mayor of Asunción between 2010 and 2015. During his tenure as community administrator he was criticized for various irregularities. Specifically, he was accused of property damage of G. 20 billion to the detriment of the municipality of Asunción. He does not face any cause against him.
