The Bicameral Commission of Investigation (CBI) on money laundering, presented several exclusive videos to the media that reveal how bribes were used to pass contraband merchandise through the Customs checkpoint located on the Friendship Bridge. The images correspond to March of last year.
Jorge Querey, president of the Bicameral Investigation Commission (CBI) and national senator for the FG, denounced at a press conference how Customs officials receive bribes in exchange for the illegal entry of merchandise in the primary zone of Ciudad del Este.
In videos it is observed how the guards of said institution even coordinate where they were going to keep the money. These are exclusive films recorded in the first zone of Ciudad del Este, 200 meters from the Friendship Bridge, on March 22, 2021 from 6:00 p.m.
In the video you can see two Customs guards by name; Virgilio Ferreira and Luciani Florenciano, enter their shifts at 6:00 p.m. From there they agree on who will receive the bribe, where they will store it, they even coordinate how they will ask the merchants not to bring certain products such as cement, sugar and chicken, since they had orders not to allow their passage.
In the conversations, the guards are also heard talking about how they will ask the merchants to participate in an artificial confiscation of products. This, due to the warning that there are observers from the Interinstitutional Unit for the Prevention and Persecution of Smuggling (UIC). What they did not know was that these observers placed security cameras that filmed the entire procedure.
