Querey questions null progress in the Messer case

Querey questions null progress in the Messer case

Last Wednesday the 25th, the Court of Accounts annulled the sanction applied by the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP) to the National Development Bank (BNF), consisting of a fine of G. 10,655 million (US$ 1.5 million per current change).

The reason was the flaws in the actions on money laundering and suspicious operations that link the Brazilian money changer Darío Messer, popularly known as “the soul brother” of Horacio Cartes, former president of the Republic.

QUEREY

Jorge Querey, national senator for the Guasu Front and member of the Bicameral Investigation Commission on money laundering and related crimes, attributed to Mr. Darío Messer and his associates, gave a few words on the point to the communicators. This was before the start of yesterday’s ordinary session.

Given the fact that Darío Messer is already sentenced in Brazil and here there is not even an open file, he pointed out that he is carrying out the case with arrows and finds several political actors involved.

“One is making an arrow link when you are following up on these issues. Messer was hidden in Antonio Da Mota’s ranch. The latter is linked to the Minotaur. These people received money through Eduardo Campos, they are all united in one line, but there is no investigation, much less an accusation and not to mention a conviction, ”he questioned.

BNF CASE

Regarding the decision of the Court of Accounts, Querey affirmed that the National Development Bank (BNF) did not respect the anti-money laundering mechanisms of the Messer case. For this, he received a fine of G. 10,655 million.

“There are contradictions. The BNF is verified, the irregularity. Now that is up. The accusation is not made in the Prosecutor’s Office to any authority. What about BNF compliance officers? What about former President Pereira who is now Minister of Housing? ”, He questioned.

Finally, he pointed out that as long as our country does not rebuild state institutions, our country will continue to regret the murders of prosecutors like Pecci or mayors like Acevedo and other people who individually make the decision to confront these structures.

It should be remembered that the court that resolved the case is made up of María Celeste Jara Talavera, Edward Vittone Rojas and Arsenio Coronel Benítez.

At the time, the BCP had detailed that the BNF would have failed to comply with policies and procedures, as well as the lack of diligence of the client, origin of funds, identity of the beneficiary, international transfers, lack of documentation, transaction limits, among others.
