The company Fluor Corporation announced this Wednesday that the first production of copper concentrate was achieved at Anglo American’s Quellaveco project in Moquegua.
In addition, the engineering company, contracted by Anglo American to build the mine, mentioned that the first production of copper concentrate marks the beginning of tests of the processing plant with ore and the increase in mining activities in order to demonstrate fitness for operations.

When completed, the open pit mine will process 127,500 metric tons per day of ore using conventional crushing, grinding and flotation technology to produce an average of 300,000 metric tons of copper equivalent per year during the first 10 years of operations.
The mine will increase Peru’s copper production by approximately 10% and generate 2,500 direct jobs by including local suppliers in the supply chain.
