Queen Elizabeth II, the world’s most famous monarch, died Thursday at the age of 96 at her Scottish castle in Balmoral, with his family by his side. His eldest child, Prince Charles, automatically became the new monarch.

“The queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and Queen will remain at Balmoral tonight and return to London tomorrow,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement, shocking the UK and the world.

Queen Elizabeth, who came to throne in 1952, starred longest reign in British historymarked by his strong sense of duty and his determination to dedicate his life to the throne and his people, indicates the BBC.

In October of last year, Elizabeth II spent a night hospitalized to undergo tests of which no details were given.

Since then she had considerably reduced her schedule, her public appearances were increasingly rare and in them she was often seen walking with difficulty aided by a cane.

In June, the monarch appeared just twice for her Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne.

On Tuesday he received the new Prime Minister Liz Truss at Balmoral, despite the fact that she traditionally traveled to London for the transition of government.
