Fernando Gamarra highlights the progress of works in Melo and the department

A few days after assuming as an interim mayor, the current director of works of the Intendencia de Cerro Largo, Fernando Gamarra, made a balance of the progress of different works in Melo and the department. In his report, he highlighted projects in execution, works that are in the culmination phase and those that will be resumed in the coming months.

AV. CLÁCERES AND NEIGHBORHOOD: A significant change for Melo

One of the most prominent projects in the city is the network of Cáceres Avenue, a fundamental artery that connects the 200 -year source with the neighborhood road. According to Gamarra, the works have advanced considerably and, in the next few days, the paving of this important section will be inaugurated.

“It is a very important avenue for our department. It starts at the 200 -year source and ends on a neighborhood road. Now the asphalt folder pavement is going to be inaugurated, together with a gutter cord, being finished between today or tomorrow. Subsequently, complementary works such as lighting and paths will be completed, ”explained the hierarchy.

The modernization of this route will not only improve the connectivity of the area, but also represents a significant transformation in Melo’s road infrastructure, optimizing the safety and fluidity of the traffic.

The advance in road works is not limited to the main avenues, but also covers different neighborhoods of the city. In this sense, interventions have been carried out in the Murguía neighborhood, where you work on the construction of cordon gutter and the preparation of streets to receive bituminous treatment.

“We are working on the qualification and requalification of the Murguía neighborhood, making cordon gutter and preparing for later paving. In addition, in the South neighborhood, sector 9, we are advancing with gutter cord teams and Bituminization bases, ”said Gamarra.

Another area that receives a strong intervention is the Castagnet neighborhood, around the San José Chapel. At this point, the construction of gutter cord is being culminated in the last and a half block that is pending, and then proceed to the bituminization of the streets.

Coordination with OSE for works in the north zone

In parallel, the Intendencia works together with OSE for the completion of works on Saravia Street and the transversal to Aceguá road. Coordination between both institutions is key to avoiding delays and ensuring that sanitation works are complemented with the corresponding paving.

“We are in contact with OSE so that they barely finish their intervention in the northern zone, we can perform our part and complete the paving. This is a work strategy that allows us to optimize resources and avoid future unnecessary arrangements, ”Gamarra said.

Pavement plan advance: about 90% of streets without ballast

One of the main goals of the administration has been to eliminate the ballast of the streets of Melo and reach 100% paving. According to Gamarra, an advance of 90%has been achieved, with a view to continuing with new paving in the next six months.

“We come quite advanced, already 90%. Do not forget that the administration ends with me, so we still have six months ahead to continue bituminizing loose streets in different neighborhoods, ”he said.

This road modernization plan has allowed to improve the quality of life of citizens, reducing dust problems in summer and mud in winter, in addition to optimizing vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Street maintenance and microcentro recovery

In addition to the large paving projects, the Municipality has deployed crews for the maintenance of streets in different parts of the city. It is working intensely in the pothole and recovery of the Melo microcenter, with specialized teams to improve the transitability in the main arteries of the city.

“We are trying to recover the streets with bump and maintenance tasks in the microcenter, where we also have a working team,” said Gamarra.

These actions are fundamental to preserve the status of the streets and ensure that deterioration does not advance, avoiding major long -term problems.

Availability of resources and work rhythm

Regarding the availability of resources, Gamarra said that economic support is guaranteed, which has allowed works to advance without interruptions.

“The economic resources are, for something the works are being done. In addition, the weather has been favorable, allowing officials to work until 6 or 7 in the afternoon, which has helped us to advance at a good pace, ”he said.

This factor has been decisive to meet the works schedule and accelerate work in various areas of the department.

A positive balance and challenges ahead

Works management in Melo and Cerro Largo has shown concrete advances in road and urban infrastructure, with planning that allows optimizing the available times and resources.

Fernando Gamarra, in his role as director of works and future interim mayor, stressed that there is still a lot of work to be done, but he was confident that in the coming months the paving plan and other urban interventions can be consolidated.

“The idea is to identify the streets that are still unpaved and continue with bituminization. There is quite a job to do, but we are advancing with a firm step, ”he concluded.

With this panorama, the municipal administration continues to execute key projects for the development of Melo and its surroundings, with the aim of leaving a better connected city, more orderly and with adequate infrastructure for the well -being of all its inhabitants.
