Quadrant patrol begins to control crime

SANTO DOMINGO.– This Friday the new police patrol strategy by quadrants came into operation for greater control and supervision of the services and to improve the trust and protection of citizens.

Quadrant patrolling is a technique that consists of small geographical delimitations of a fixed sector, to which a staff is assigned to optimize and make crime prevention and deterrence more efficient.

The strategy begins with 504 men, 18 in each of the 84 quadrants, in three turns; 33 vans, 84 motorcycles, 33 car kits, 504 body cams, 117 communication radios and 117 cell phones. Whenever necessary, the service of the Drone Unit will be available, made up of 19 aircraft and 42 pilots.

The act to initiate this new strategy took place in the parking lot of the Banreservas Tower, on Winston Churchill Avenue in Santo Domingo, and was attended by the Minister of the Interior and Police, Jesús Vásquez Martínez; the director of the Police, Major General Eduardo Alberto Then, and the commissioner for police reform, José Vila del Castillo.

During the day, the vehicles and new technologies that add to the strategy to increase the protection of the population were presented. Among the advantages of this model are defined areas of police responsibility, efficient distribution and use of resources, reduction in the occurrence of criminal acts, greater police presence and more contact between citizens and the Police.

This initiative is part of the changes contemplated by the reform plan for the professionalization and technification of the Police promoted by the Government of President Abinader.

Using statistics, the beginning of the quadrants in Department C-1 was determined, which covers the sectors Los Jardines, San Gerónimo, Los Millones, Ensanche Quisqueya, La Esperilla, Los Prados, Piantini, Paraíso and Naco. In this geographical area, with 49 quadrants, 294 men are on duty (in 3 shifts), 17 vans, 49 motorcycles, 17 “car kits”, 294 Body Cams (Body Cameras), 66 communication radios, 66 cell phones and 8 supervisory

Also, Department C-6, with 35 quadrants, which includes the University Zone, the Heroes Center, Bella Vista, Kilometers 1, Kilometers 2, Kilometers 3, Los Cacicazgos, Costa Verde and Mirador Sur Park. The service platform is made up of 210 men (in 3 shifts), 16 trucks, 35 motorcycles, 16 car kits, 210 body cams (body cameras), 51 communication radios, 51 cell phones and 9 supervisors.

In welfare of safety

During the launch event of this plan, the Director General of the National Police, Major General Eduardo Alberto Then, after issuing details on the distribution of agents by quadrants, the tools and technological equipment with which they were endowed for the proper performance of its functions, pointed out that the purpose is to implement this strategy throughout the national territory.

In addition, he took the opportunity to highlight the significant work that the law enforcement institution has been doing recently, achieving positive results in actions against crime and criminality.

“In recent weeks we have increased our response capacity for those antisocials who have proposed to create a climate of unrest in our country, since our constitutional commitment is to protect lives and property, both public and private,” said Major General Alberto Then .

The police director called on citizens to trust “in their Police”, an institution that works hard every day, 24 hours a day, to guarantee security and collective tranquility.

Operation protocol

The operation protocol stipulates that the quadrant be visited frequently in a stealthy manner and attentive to any event that may occur, with frequent stops to make contact with the neighborhood. In this way, it is intended to guarantee security in its area of ​​responsibility.

Likewise, this strategy intends to have permanent contact with the residents in its quadrant, putting themselves in order and ensuring peaceful coexistence. They are instructed to provide residents with identification and cell phone number, for any assistance they have to provide. You should know where the schools, banks, grocery stores, “drinks”, restaurants and other establishments are located.

Likewise, the mandate to be in contact with the neighborhood council or community leaders, so that together they can seek solutions to any need that affects the peaceful coexistence of the residents. Agents must submit a daily report of the developments that occurred during their duty shift and deliver the service along with any relevant developments each time they are relieved.

Speaking at the event, both the Vice Minister of Security of the Ministry of the Interior and Police, Jesús M. Feliz Jiménez; the director of Urban Planning of the City Council of the National District (ADN), Jesús Mayobanex Suazo, and the representative of the Neighborhood Council of the Central Estate, Pedro José Andújar Gastón, agreed to highlight the importance of joint work between the Police and citizens, to achieve significant results in actions for safety.
