The State of Qatar showed interest in investing in the Dominican Republic, during a meeting between President Luis Abinader and the Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The heads of state discussed the interest in strengthening diplomatic and commercial relations.
Qatar’s investment interest is because the Dominican Republic is the fastest growing economy in Latin America.
The Dominican president arrived at the Royal Palace at 10:30 in the morning and was personally received by the Emir.

Abinader and Al Thani first held a bilateral meeting with their respective ministerial teams where business, commercial and investment interests were exchanged.
Then the host invited President Abinader to a more private meeting.
They discussed the possibility of establishing a direct Qatar Airways flight to the Dominican Republic.
At the working meeting with the Emir of Qatar and his ministerial team, the Ministers of Finance, José Manuel -Jochy- Vicente, were present for the Dominican Republic; of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, as well as the vice minister of foreign relations Hugo Rivera; the director of ProDominicana, Viviana Ribeiro and the Dominican ambassador to Qatar, Georges Bahsa Hazim.
Prior to this meeting with the Emir and the Dominican president and his entourage, they participated in the Doha World Forum, where they participated in one of the panels.

Yesterday, President Abinader continued his agenda in Qatar with various meetings with senior officials of this nation from the areas of commerce and industry, tourism, public health, transportation and defense.
Yesterday he met with the Minister of Commerce and Industry of Qatar, Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al-Thani, then with the Minister of Tourism, HE Saad bin Ali Al. The Ministers of Public Health, HE Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud and the Minister of Transport , HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Thani.
He held meetings with the CEO of Katara Hospitality, businessman Nasser Matar AlKawari; with the Director General of Qatar Investment Authority, Mohammed Saif Al-Sowaidi and a meeting at noon with the Minister of Defense of the State of Qatar, HE Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan AlThani.
The delegation that accompanies the president is made up of the ministers of the Treasury, José Manuel Vicente; of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos; the Vice Minister of Economic Affairs and Cooperation of Mirex, Hugo Rivera, and the executive director of the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana), Biviana Riveiro.
The Secretary General of the Presidential Cabinet, Eilyn Beltrán; the president’s personal assistant, Mercedes Pichardo; the president’s Press Director, Daniel García Archibald, and the Dominican ambassador to Qatar, Georges Bahsa Hazim.
Return from Qatar
President Abinader’s return is scheduled for this Tuesday after concluding his official visit to Qatar this Monday. The president will board a Qatar airline flight to Miami and from there he will board the flight to Santo Domingo after spending six days outside the country. .
