The Party for the Victory of the People (PVP) of Espacio 567, a sector that integrates the ranks of the wide front, will present tomorrow, Friday the 27th, an activity called «Uruguay today. Authoritarian rise, and Truth, Memory and Justice in dispute – Academic and political perspectives for a necessary debate».
The initiative also has the participation of the historians Magdalena Broquetas and Aldo Marchesi, the political scientist and leader of Casa Grande, Constanza Moreira, and the member of the Human Rights Committee of the PIT-CNT and referent of the PVP, Raúl Olivera Alfaro. This proposal will take place tomorrow, Friday the 27th at 7:00 p.m. at the Carlos Brussa Cultural Center, at 929 Mercedes Street (Downtown).
“What are the characteristics of the right today, and what are its changes and continuities with the past? What are the meanings and the political and social consequences of the appearance of Cabildo Abierto? How does the Uruguayan right articulate economic policy with punitive logic? Is there an authoritarian drift? What are the reasons for the renewed dispute over memory, truth and justice from the right today? These and other questions explain many discussions in various social and political spheres, ”says a text written by members of Espacio 567.
Also “this activity intends to contribute and deepen these debates. For this, we add knowledge by inviting academics and political actors”, he adds at the end of the text.
