(EFE) .- The president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, described this Thursday as “unsatisfactory” the relationship with the US, but he reiterated again that he is open to a constructive dialogue, just as the diplomacy of both countries is evaluating the possibility of new contacts between the Russian leader and the US president, Joe Biden.
“These relations, to put it mildly, are in an unsatisfactory state,” he said in a meeting with the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He nonetheless affirmed that the Geneva summit that he held last June in Geneva with US President Joe Biden “opened some opportunities for dialogue and gradual alignment, strengthening relations.”
“It is important that both parties consistently develop the agreements reached,” regarding the normalization of the operation of the respective legations and the dialogues on nuclear weapons control and cybersecurity, he said.
“Something is already being done, it must be admitted: joint work has been started on the problems of strategic stability and information security,” he said.
As for the removal of obstacles to the work of the respective embassies and consulates, for now there is no tangible progress, according to Putin.

The president also said Thursday that opportunities for an improvement of relations with the European Union they are shrinking more and more, as Brussels drives Russia away with sanctions and “unfriendly actions.”
“Speaking of European affairs, we have to say with regret that opportunities for cooperation are shrinking,” the president said in a meeting with the senior staff of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“We must not forget that we are neighbors and, as history shows, dividing lines on the continent do not lead to anything good,” he added.
The president said that “Russia, of course, is interested in maintaining constructive and good-neighborly ties with European states, but everything depends on the reciprocal willingness of the partners to establish and develop equal and respectful cooperation.”
