The president of Russia, Vladimir Putinhas defended this Thursday his commitment to “the ideals of a multipolar world”, at the same time that he has denounced the deterioration of the international situation without mentioning some of the most recent episodes, such as the crisis in Iran, the capture of the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, or the expansionist threats of Donald Trump on Greenland.
Although Putin has been against those who seek to achieve their own security at the expense of other countries, the Russian president has chosen not to mention these issues during his speech at the ceremony for handing over credentials to the new ambassadors.
Putin has spoken of “equitable security” that “cannot be ensured at the expense of others” and has stressed the argument that the war in Ukraine is a “direct consequence of years of ignoring Russia’s legitimate interests” and creating “deliberate threats” such as the advance of the NATO towards the Russian borders.
“Russia aspires to a lasting and sustainable peace over time that guarantees the security of all,” he stated, emphasizing that they are Ukraine and its European partners who are not prepared for a peaceful solution to the conflict. “Until then, Russia will continue to pursue its objectives,” he warned.
Putin has acknowledged that the Kremlin’s relationship with a majority of European capitals “leaves much to be desired”, although it was they who he blamed. “The dialogue between officials, the public and business circles has been reduced to a minimum, through no fault of ours,” he protested, reports the TASS news agency.
“Cooperation on key regional and international issues has been frozen,” stated the Russian president who, even so, hopes that “over time, the situation will change” and these ties can be recovered, as long as “legitimate security concerns and respect for Russian interests” are guaranteed.
Defense of a multipolar world
Although the Russian president has stated that diplomacy “is increasingly being replaced by unilateral and very dangerous actions,” he has not mentioned specific cases, beyond expressing solidarity with Cuba and “its determination to defend its sovereignty and independence with all its strength.”
“Instead of dialogue between States, we hear the monologue of those who, by right of force, consider it permissible to dictate their will, teach others to live and give orders,” reproached Putin, who stated that Moscow remains “committed to the ideals of a multipolar world.”
Putin has called on all members of the international community to comply with International Law and collaborate in the creation of “a new world order in which all States would have the right to their own growth model, to determine their own destiny without external influences, while preserving their distinctive culture and traditions.”
He has highlighted the new bilateral relations with the Taliban authorities in Afghanistan as a necessary boost to ensure that the country “is a united, independent state free of terrorism and drug trafficking.” Likewise, he has regretted the stagnation of the relationship with South Korea.
