The purchase of shoes in homes was $1.69 billion in the first half of 2022. For the Colombian Association of Footwear, Leather and Manufactures Manufacturers (Acicam) this is one of the indicators of the good moment that the activity is experiencing.
In his opinion, the reopening in the form of face-to-face commerce and the first day without VAT were fundamental factors in explaining the behavior of footwear consumption.
Today it is one of the fastest growing activities within the lines of the manufacturing industry.
As of May of this year, according to Dane, the manufacture of footwear registered a growth in production of 29.2% compared to the same period in 2021.
Industrial sales, on the other hand, registered a variation of 36.9%, this behavior is mainly explained by the growth of orders for mother’s and father’s days, by the greater manufacture of endowment footwear and the increase in the consumption of footwear in the country, according to Acicam.
Regarding leather goods, in the first five months of the year official figures show growth of 20.2% in production and 14.4% in sales. This variation is due to the growth of backpack sales and catalog sales, which are generating great momentum in this sector.
In turn, footwear exports from January to May 2022 totaled US$13.8 million with a variation of 58.4% in values and an increase of 13.1% in quantities, for a total of 1 million pairs. Most of the clients are in the United States, Ecuador and Peru.
In the midst of this favorable situation, the union will hold its International Footwear & Leather Show (IFLS) + International Exhibition of Leather and Supplies, Machinery and Technology (EICI), from August 1 to 4, 2022 in the Great Hall of Corferias.
It will have the participation of guest speakers from Brazil, Italy, Mexico, Portugal and Colombia, who will exhibit their most recent collections.
In the 4 days that the event lasts, 8,000 national and international visitors are expected to attend and the business expectation in this opportunity is $25,000 million.
“Our fair is the largest showcase of footwear and leather goods in Colombia and is presented as a great opportunity for generating business that allows the sector to continue growing. Although the figures show good dynamics, there are still problems in obtaining raw materials. This is why we hope that the fair will help companies solve the supply problems they currently face.”, expressed Willian Parrado, Director of Economic Research and Projects at Acicam.
