Puno: Medical examiner arrested for asking for a thousand soles to perform a legal autopsy

Police personnel from the Anti-Corruption Directorate and the prosecutor specializing in corruption crimes of public officials in Puno intervened with a medical examiner to investigate the alleged crime of passive bribery. The incident occurred in the capital of the province of San Antonio de Putina.

According to preliminary investigations, the forensic worker had requested 1,000 soles to perform the autopsy on one of the 4 deceased miners, whose bodies were found over the weekend in the town of La Rinconada, Ananea district, San Antonio de Putina province.

A source from the National Police reported that they arrested in flagrante the forensic doctor of the Public Ministry, Gustavo AF (39) who had requested the sum of one thousand soles from a relative of a deceased person.

The authorities found banknotes, cell phones and other objects among the arrested man’s belongings, which were seized for investigation. The detainee was also transferred to the Puno police station for further investigation.

As we recall, on August 18, four lifeless bodies were found in the Llactapata sector, in the mining town of La Rinconada. The unfortunate victims had injuries, so the required autopsy was awaited.
