Puno is one of the regions where the social convulsion is maintained as a result of the protests, blockades and strikes called by radical sectors. In the midst of the social and political crisis it is facing, it is necessary to know details of the region. The most complete information on It dates from 2019, so we share a brief, but essential X-ray to learn about the situation in the southern region of Peru.

A first fact to take into account is that 92,000 people from Puno do not know how to read or write, that is, 10.5% of the population is illiterate, this being higher in women (16%) than in men (4.7%).

On the other hand, according to information from the Regional Directorate of Labor and Employment Promotion, in Puno labor informality in the population of working age amounted to 88.14%, while only 11.86% access a formal job. Meanwhile, there was an economically inactive population (PEI) of 163,000 people.

These data were also reflected in the 2019 Regional Competitiveness Index, which was prepared by the Peruvian Institute of Economy, where Puno ranks 21 out of 25 regions, being one of the least competitive regions in the country.
