UNAM Pumas beat the champion 1-0 on Sunday America at the close of the tenth day of the Apertura tournament of Mexican soccer thanks to a goal from the Peruvian Piero Quispe. With its third consecutive victory, the club from the National Autonomous University of Mexico reached 19 points to place itself in fifth place in the standings, behind Cruz Azul (25), Toluca (21), Tigres UANL (21) and Monterrey (21).

In the match played at the Ciudad de los Deportes stadium in Mexico City, Quispe scored the winning goal in the 19th minute with a shot inside the area after receiving a pass from Guillermo Martínez. América pressed in search of an equalizer that was close to achieving with a shot from Uruguayan Rodrigo Aguirre that passed very close to the right post.

The “Águilas” of América continued looking for the equalizer that they did not achieve due to the failures of the forwards and the wise interventions of goalkeeper Julio González. América finished the match with one man less due to the expulsion of Paraguayan Richard Sánchez, who saw the card Red at 94 minutes for complaining to the referee.
