Pulmonology recognizes increase in mild cases of Covid-19

The president of the Dominican Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery, Plutarch Ariasacknowledged this Friday that in recent days the number of patients with respiratory conditions who come to consultations has increased.

The pulmonologist clarified that in addition to the coronavirus, currently other respiratory viruses are circulating typical of the time, which is why it is necessary to receive the appropriate diagnosis and treatment for each patient.

Through the telephone, the specialist admitted that in his private practice “there were weeks that I was not seeing patients with Covid”, but that has already begun to register an increase of up to 15%.

“In my case, as I see many patients, I have noticed this change, but the average is an increase of 6% in consultation”, he estimated.

He clarified that, to date, all the patients he has received they are mild patients, in stable conditions.

Importance of the vaccine

The doctor stressed that the three key actions to avoid infections by Covid-19 are: maintain hand washing, use masks and complete the vaccination scheduleas well as follow the instructions issued by the Ministry of Public Health.

He recalled that in vaccinated patients the effect of Covid-19 It is usually lighter, hence the importance of having up-to-date vaccinations.

“If people are vaccinated, the disease is even milder,” he concluded.

The Ministry of Public Health reported this Friday 109 new infections of Covid-19bringing the total number of active cases throughout the national geography to 629.

The daily positivity is at 5.87% and a total of 31 inpatients without seriousness and one confined in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) are registered.
