The National Guard of Puerto Rico (GNPR) asked citizens “calm, avoid speculation and go to official sources for reliable information,” after great controversy unleashed by the support of the authorities to the military exercises that the United States armed forces performs in the archipelago, due to the climbing of voltage with Venezuela.

The GNPR remarked in a statement this Tuesday, September 2 that these practices of the twenty -second expeditionary unit of Marina Infantry are carried out under “close coordination to guarantee minimal impact on the local population” of this free state associated with the US.

“The Puerto Rico National Guard is proud to support training, which began on August 31, which strengthen the department and interoperability,” emphasized the general assistant of Puerto Rico, Carlos J. Rivera.

The United States has deployed more than 4,000 military in recent days, including about 2,000 Marines, in addition to aircraft, eight military ships with 1,200 missiles and a nuclear submarine to patrol in the waters near Venezuela and the Caribbean with the aim of fighting drug posters.

As reported by the Marine Infantry, an increase in military activity visible to the public in Puerto Rico is anticipated, including tactical movements and air operations, particularly in areas near the coast.

According to the authorities, training includes amphibious landings, recognition and survival techniques, taking advantage of the unique land and climate of Puerto Rico, and for reasons of operational security, specific locations have not been disclosed.

The political status of Puerto Rico as an associated free state, established in 1952, gives the archipelago a certain degree of autonomy and a local government and parliament, but leaves under the control of the US areas such as defense, borders and diplomatic relations.

This Tuesday, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, informed that his country shot at a ship loaded with drugs from Venezuela without offering more details about an alleged military operation in the Caribbean, where the US Navy has positioned several warships.

«We have a lot of drugs that have arrived in our country for a long time, and these come from Venezuela. They leave in large quantities of Venezuela. Many things are leaving Venezuela, so we eliminate it (the ship), ”said Trump.

The mobilization of the United States Military Forces is framed in an increase in pressure on Nicolás Maduro, to whom the Donald Trump administration recently doubled to 50 million dollars the reward for information that leads to its capture.
