Puerto Plata Airport restarts operations

The company Dominican Airports XXI century (Aerodom) restored this Friday the air traffic in the Gregorio Luperon International Airport (AIGL) of Puerto Plata.

Operations at said terminal were closed for 10 days due to remodeling work on the runway.

The first of six flights scheduled for the restart of air traffic in the AIGL was JetBlue’s 627. He landed at 12:28 pm from John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.

Subsequently, United Airlines flights 1078 landed, from Newark; WestJet 2506, from Toronto; American Airlines 935, from Miami; Condor 2144, from Frankfurt; and Air Transat 944, from Toronto.

“It fills us with joy to resume our operations at the Gregorio Luperón International Airport, after having carried out a major repair and remodeling of the runway as part of our maintenance program,” said Carlos Rodolí Conde, airport director.

He explained that the intervention will increase operational safety by improving rolling conditions, as well as maximizing its useful life.

The work carried out, which involved an investment of more than US$4.5 million, consisted of the demolition of the existing concrete slabs that had to be replaced, the construction of new slabs and the adaptation of the “RESA” of header 26.

With them, the useful life of the runway is extended, the operating conditions of the aircraft improve, and the leveling of slabs in the central section of the runway is corrected, he said. Aerodom.
