Oaxaca, Oax., While continuing his tour of the entity, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador supervised –privately– the modernization works of the port of Salina Cruz, which, with an investment of 30 billion pesos, have a 40 percent advance.
After emphasizing that it will become one of the ports most important in the world
highlighted that the set of projects developed by the federal government in the entity adds up to at least 80 billion pesos.
Accompanied by Governor Alejandro Murat and Secretary of the Navy, Rafael Ojeda, the president said that among the most outstanding works are: a coking plant at the Salina Cruz refinery, with an investment of 50 billion pesos; the construction of the Transisthmian Train from Salina Cruz to Coatzacoalcos and the modernization of the port.
On a supervision tour of Salina Cruz, López Obrador anticipated that the modernization of the port will be completed before the end of his six-year term.
Giving an account in a video on social networks of his private visit, he reported that the works being carried out in the port will make it one of the most important in the world
because it will have a depth of 24 meters, which will allow it to receive vessels with a capacity of up to 24,000 containers or oil tankers that have the possibility of moving 2 million barrels per day.
We are now producing one million 400 thousand barrels of oil a day in Mexico. They would take them all on a ship, nothing more than it will not be here because they will no longer take the crude oil, now we are going to process all our raw material to produce gasoline and diesel here to be self-sufficient and that the prices of fuels do not increase. fuels.
The President added that in the modernization of the port they have had the support of the state government and the communities. Only 30 billion pesos have been invested in this work, which if added to the 2.5 billion dollars that were channeled to the coking plant (around 50 billion pesos) yield at least 80 billion pesos. in the entity.
When detailing the scope of the project to link railway routes from Ciudad Hidalgo and Tapachula, on the Guatemalan border, to Salina Cruz, where the Transisthmian Train begins to Coatzacoalcos, he explained that it is intended to connect another route to Palenque, in order to link it with the Mayan Train. He commented that this operation will be carried out by a company operated by the Secretary of the Navy.
