After the approval and promulgation of the Amnesty Law for Democratic Coexistence, which was approved in the National Assembly (AN) and was signed by the acting president Delcy Rodríguez, it has been published in Official Gazette No. 6,990 dated February 19, 2026.
The document states that the law aims to grant a general and full amnesty for crimes or misdemeanors committed and that occurred within the framework of the facts and the temporal scope indicated in the law, in order to promote social peace and democratic coexistence. It also aims to promote the use of democratic and constitutional mechanisms to resolve differences that arise within society.
The law also contemplates favoring the integration into public activity of amnestied people.
The president in charge signed her signature to give way to the promulgation and execution of the Amnesty Law for Democratic Coexistenceand requested the Parliament’s Monitoring Commission, the Program for Democratic Coexistence and Peace, as well as the president of the Commission for the Judicial Revolution, Diosdado Cabello, to review the cases not contemplated in the Amnesty Law with maximum speed.
In his opinion, a new stage is opening in the life of the country, because it is urgent to redirect democratic coexistence and justice and heal the wounds.
379 amnesties will be granted in the next few hours
It should be noted that the president of the Special Commission for Monitoring the Amnesty Law for Democratic Coexistence, Jorge Arreaza, reported that The Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), together with the Public Ministry (MP), have made the competent requests to grant 379 Amnesties.
Arreaza pointed out that of the 379: 371 people will be amnestied in Caracas, five in Barinas, two in Portuguesa and one in Monagas, who will be released in the next few hours. He indicated that, as the cases are reviewed, the dynamic will continue to be carried out over the next fifteen days.
