MIAMI, United States.- A publication in Facebook of the official journalist Cuscó Tarradell has generated hundreds of comments and reactions among Cubans inside and outside the island this week. The post contains only cartoons, but one of them, without words to describe it, has a particular meaning.
The image shows what could be a politician speaking to the people, while a silhouette of Pinocchio, the famous cartoon character whose nose grew when he lied, is reflected in the shadow.
Tarradell’s followers have reacted to the post by the hundreds, and while some warn him that posts like these could put him in the sights of the regime, many congratulate him and admire his courage.
The Tarradell publication accompanied it with the following heading: “39 illustrations that sadly reflect truths of modern society. How to meditate! Don’t miss a single one.”
However, it was the image of the politician who lies that received the most comments.
“That is what a journalist of our time who defends his people does,” wrote one user, while another assured that for attitudes like that “you are loved. One day Cuba will have freedom of the press among other freedoms that are being cried out for… There you will shine even more. Blessings brother”.
Cuban Natasha Álvarez questioned the fear “of taking a right that belongs to us as human beings, that of freedom in all senses. Telling the truth makes us great, it dignifies us. Putting ourselves on the side of injustice impoverishes us, makes us miserable. The fear that only exists within us immobilizes, we must know that for this reason they dominate us, use us and manipulate us”.
“I applaud you, I support you and I see you as great and dignified, because you respect yourself, which is the greatest thing a human being can do, you have your own criteria, you are not a remote-controlled parrot,” added the woman.
“Great show of gallantry yours brother. Believe me, coming from you, it is a more than authorized and respected opinion, I congratulate you. Our current landscape exposed in that image,” another user wrote.
“May God bless you Cuscó, and protect you from all evil today and always. You are a journalist of excellence and distinction. Your people from Santiago follow you and love you,” commented Maritza Rodríguez.
“Hello Cusco, I have seen other images that you have published similar to this one, apparently there is something you want to express, but not with words, just as artists have done with their satires. Be careful that they can demonize you for that and we from Santiago need you with fresh and timely information. God bless you”, reads another comment on Tarradell’s publication.
Cuscó Tarradell, one of the most popular official journalists in Santiago de Cuba, has kept absolute silence about the reactions of the post, which is not the first one published denouncing the situation in the country.
At the beginning of August, he shared a meme in which he alludes to the dollarization of the country and, in the same way, to the frequent and annoying power outages that the town has suffered for many weeks.
