Since last January, public workers have taken to the streets to demonstrate for better wages. They assure that in the absence of responses from the Executive, the protests will radicalize. They called a strike for February 28 and March 1
Public workers marched this Monday, February 27, from Plaza Venezuela to the headquarters of the Public Ministry, on Urdaneta Avenue with the corner of Ánimas, to demand better wages. They also recalled that the next call is for a 48-hour strike.
“Charging 46 is a crime”, “charging $6 is a violation of human rights”, “salaries and pensions indexed to the basic basket” were what some of the protesters’ banners said.

Since last January, public workers have taken to the streets to demonstrate for better wages. They assure that in the absence of responses from the Executive, the protests will radicalize.
José Gregorio Afonso, president of the Federation of Associations of University Professors of Venezuela (Fapuv), told the media that «the levels of struggle must be deepened; For this reason, today we have a mobilization and a 48-hour strike at the national level that involves the stoppage of almost 180,000 workers in the university sector and nearly 60 higher education study houses. The strike is inter-union and summarizes the position of teachers, employees and workers, who demand the right to live with dignity as a product of our salary.
In the same way, he recalled that the Government must give an answer to the country and assured that any salary increase can be indexed in the country, since in January it granted a bonus of 30 dollars. He also indicated that the discussion of a salary increase should start “by adding that bonus; that is, the current salary and the previous bonus ».
On the other hand, Afonso said that they do not want to paralyze the country or education and I reiterate that “it is the Government with its policy that is paralyzing the country. We do not rule out any type of measure within this process of struggle.
