Construction of the Cooperativismo Plaza in Cerro Largo
The Municipality of Cerro Largo and the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) signed an agreement for the construction of the Plaza del Cooperativismo in the Department, within the framework of the Fund for the Development of Cultural Infrastructure in the interior of the country.
The agreement was signed in Montevideo by Mayor Fernando Gamarra and the General Director of Development, Federico Ricagni, with the support of the Intendance and the initiative of the Intercooperativa Table of Cerro Largo and CUDECOP.
The new public space, which will cover 1,778 m², will be located in Libertos, Atanasio Sierra and José Ramírez Pérez streets. Its objective is to create an intergenerational area with spaces for children’s games, community meetings and an emblematic site dedicated to cooperativism.
The design of the square will include a central sector of 600 m², an access portal with posters, a curved mural selected by contest, metal pergolas for shadow and columns decorated with the colors of cooperativism. It will also have fixed tables and banks to foster coexistence.
The project, which will begin shortly, seeks to strengthen the cultural infrastructure of the department and promote the values of cooperativism in the community.
