The Prosecutor’s Office has deployed a series of proceedings to clarify the controversial nullity of the complementary elections to the 2025-2028 rector of the National University of Piura (UNP), in a process marked by distrust and controversy.
Yesterday, at 9:00 am, prosecutor Silva Mechato appeared at the UNP facilities, specifically in the offices of the electoral committee to request information and have computer equipment.
However, Dr. Socorro Granda, who filed the complaint, denounced that her lawyer was mistreated by the security agent when trying to access the diligence, while the lawyer of the reported party was allowed to pass without objections.
Granda considered that “the teachers and students of the Electoral Committee must be responsible for their decisions”, since the cancellation affects the winning candidate, more than 12,000 voters and “seriously damages the image of the National University of Piura.”
For his part, Cristian García Camacho, a lawyer for university dignity, stressed that the investigations are against all the members of the electoral committee, although he said that there are four members who, by means of a notarial letter of July 16, have expressed their disagreement and demarcation of responsibilities for irregularities.
García Camacho explained that the Prosecutor’s Office seeks to confirm whether the nullity certificate was prepared in the committee computers and why previous observations were used as the basis for the cancellation of the entire process.
Among the proceedings scheduled by the Prosecutor’s Office, a graphotechnical expertise on the minutes of the Electoral Committee session in which the annulment of the electoral process was agreed has been arranged.
With this, it seeks to verify if the firms and fingerprints that appear in the minutes and in Resolution No. 020-CECR-CE-UNP-2025 effectively correspond to the members of the Electoral Committee.

Likewise, the President of the Electoral Committee has been requested to provide within two days the full administrative file – including notifications and minutes – that gave rise to the aforementioned resolution.
The omission of this requirement will be considered disobedience to the authority.
Similarly, the members of the Committee must appear to the fiscal office to provide their firms and fingerprints in order to contrast them with the documents subject to investigation. If they could not go, they could be conducted compulsively.
These proceedings will be carried out with the participation of the Public Ministry and the parties involved, in a context marked by distrust and controversy surrounding the electoral process in the university.
