The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, reported through the Instagram account of the Public Ministry that animal abuse will be sanctioned with fines that vary between 1,000 and 2,000 tax units and prison sentences.
Among the crimes that the prosecutor listed are deprivation of light, air, shadow, movements, food, coat and hygiene. For these, the fines will be 1,000 to 2,000 tax units (UT) and two to five years in prison.
SAAB explained that if the abuse is recorded on video, the prison penalty will be three to six years and fines of 600 to 1,000 UT.
This year, the amount of the Tax Unit was established in Bs 43. That is, the lowest animal abuse established by the Public Ministry (600 UT) is Bs 25,800, which for this August 3 represents $ 205.70 at the rate of the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV), which is in Bs 125.42. The largest fine (2,000) tax units reaches the amount in bolivars of 86,000, which in dollars represents $ 685.69.
For several years, the Prosecutor’s Office has shown commitment in the fight against animal abuse, promoting several laws to sanction these cases. The National Assembly approved, last year, in the first discussion the bill for decent treatment and recognition of animals rights in company; However, the authorities did not announce their content.
