Public Ministry requests arrest warrant against Leopoldo López

Prosecutor: 225 alternative measures were granted to those detained for post-election violence

The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saabreported this Monday that the Public Ministry has requested an arrest warrant against the fugitive from justice Leopoldo López, who joined the call for a foreign military intervention in Venezuela made by the former president of Colombia, Álvaro Uribe Vélez.

“This Public Ministry has immediately opened an investigation and we have requested an arrest warrant against the fugitive from justice, repeat offender in criminal actions, Leopoldo López,” the prosecutor indicated in statements to the media.

In addition, he reported that they are processing a red alert request before Interpol “for the crimes of instigating or instigating armed actions against the Republic; That is provided for in article 12 of the Simón Bolívar Organic Law.”

“In article 12 this call for instigation of armed actions against the Republic clearly appears; treason, article 128 of the Penal Code; conspiracy, article 132 of the Penal Code and association, article 37 of the Organic Law against Organized Crime,” he added.

The prosecutor rejected López’s support for a call to bathe the country in blood, “using none other than (Álvaro) Uribe and (Iván) Duque as accomplices.” He also questioned that these sectors, after having offended the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Fanb) for 25 years, now resort to calling on it “to submit to criminal action against our country.”

Saab recalled that López was the one who promoted the guarimbas of 2014 and 2017, he sent dozens of young Venezuelans to death, among other actions against the country, and now from abroad “he calls to kill, to bathe this country in blood, to bomb this country regardless of the consequences.”

Likewise, he shared a video in which the consequences of a foreign military intervention for people are evident, generating chaos, death and destruction, examples being nations such as Libya, Iraq or Syria.

Venezuela will not tolerate any more calls for destabilization

The attorney general emphasized that Venezuela will no longer tolerate calls for the destabilization of the country by these sectors, since the people are fed up and totally reject these calls for violence.

“Venezuela will no longer continue to tolerate within the community of any sector, both democratic opposition that do exist in this country, as well as the pro-government sector such as businessmen, merchants, workers, housewives, these incessant calls to destabilize” He asserted and affirmed that the people and institutions of the country have stood firm and defeated these spokesmen of crime.

Opposition lies

The prosecutor also made reference to the lie about the alleged arrest of opposition member María Corina Machado at a rally last week.

“We were able to see how they only gathered less than a thousand people there in Chacao, where they blatantly lied saying that Mrs. Machado had been detained when that was not the case,” he declared.

Likewise, he made reference to the video released about the arrest of citizen Roalmi Alberto Cabeza Cedeño, who according to Machado had been mortally wounded and disappeared by law enforcement forces on January 9.

“If it was said that he was missing and injured, the investigation had to be opened. The investigation was opened and the person appears, not only safe and sound, but telling everything with a wealth of signs: one, that there was never such an arrest, attests to it,” he stressed.

The prosecutor confirmed that the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
