Public Ministry registers an 82% decrease in crimes in the country

Subjects who intended to cause chaos in the SEN will be charged with terrorism

The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saabreported that the Public Ministry records the decrease in crime in the country by 82%, a figure obtained through a case digitization system.

During an interview broadcast by Venevisión, the prosecutor added that, as an example, vehicle theft had a decrease of more than 90%, while complaints regarding human rights have been reduced by 40%.

Saab explained that these results were achieved because justice is working in the country, due to the proper functioning of the powers, particularly in this case the Public Ministry as the backbone and head of criminal action.

Likewise, citizen security bodies apply strategies to directly combat extortion and computer crimes. “Here people who want to break the law know that there are consequences. Crimes decrease because doing justice raises awareness,” he said.

Corruption accusations

The prosecutor highlighted that the Public Ministry has carried out some 9,362 accusations in seven years of administration and followed up 21,851 issues related to corruption. Added to these data are 6,000 convictions, in addition to the follow-up given to cases related to PDVSA.

Saab specified that the Public Ministry also has other operational areas to do justice, including the protection of older adults, actions against bullying and the fight against drug consumption.

“The action of the Public Ministry in ensuring the care of the elderly has been transcendental; 3,000 homes for the elderly have been recovered. We have charged school directors who were immersed in bullying issues,” he highlighted.

The prosecutor emphasized that they seek to preserve peace and respect for human rights, despite “a rehearsal of hybrid war, because everything has been liquefied here: sanctions, attacks, attempted coups d’état, attempted assassination of authorities.” However, he stated that today “we have total calm and coexistence in the country.”

Review of cases of post-election violence

The prosecutor ratified the action of the Public Ministry in the review of the causes of those detained for the acts of violence that occurred after the elections of July 28, also the attention to the families of the victims, to those deprived of liberty, together with the courts.

In this regard, he indicated that this has been done “because the Public Ministry together with the corresponding courts are doing their work after reviewing each case, including the meeting with the families of those detained. “It has nothing to do with any non-governmental organization.”

Saab added that they have reviewed the measures for releases, “after the call of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, but the victims of terrorism have to be made visible, they must know that these people have mourners too. “There were 28 murdered and 190 injured and the destruction of at least 500 public institutions.”

He emphasized the respect for human rights guaranteed by the Venezuelan State and highlighted the position that the Public Ministry maintains on making visible both the victims and the perpetrators of the aforementioned actions that were ordered by those who are now fugitives.

Direct attention to the people

During the interview, the prosecutor expressed the willingness to reinforce direct attention to the people through programs carried out by the Public Ministry with the communities, in a coordinated work with grassroots organizations and in order to be guarantors of peace, human rights and peaceful coexistence.

“In 10 years of the previous administration, 600,000 people were served; In seven years we have quadrupled that figure: we have 2,200,000 people served,” he stressed and mentioned that surveys have revealed that the Public Ministry is the institution with the greatest credibility.
