The Public Ministry revealed that in 2021 they received 89,352 complaints nationwide; Among the provinces where more complaints were filed are Panama with 39,503; Western Panama, 14,226; Chiriqui, 10,140 and Colon, 6,633.
They highlighted that as a result of these complaints, 106,808 hearings were held, of which 18,533 stand out for formulation of imputation; 10,589 compliance request; 8,768 legalization of the arrest; 7,384 control hearing and 6,590 sentencing.
In this same period, 9,196 people were sentenced for different crimes; in Panama, 4,745; in West Panama, 1,028; in Colón, 810 and in Chiriquí, 648. These were the provinces with the most convictions.
Of these figures, the sentences were mainly for these crimes: against collective security (3,636), against economic assets (1,116), against freedom and sexual integrity (743) and against life and personal integrity (613).
