The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, reported this Tuesday that approximately 2,200,000 people have been assisted by the Public Ministry in seven years of management.
Within the framework of the 55th anniversary of Public Prosecutor’s Day, the prosecutor expressed that in the current administration it has been possible to rebuild this body responsible for criminal action to place it “in the hands of the humble”, a process that is manifested in its headquarters and flagship programs.
“We have managed to provide care to approximately 2,200,000 people in seven years, three times more than the 630,925 people served in the previous administration of almost a decade,” he highlighted.
The prosecutor highlighted that one of the fundamental changes that has occurred is to bring the Public Ministry closer to the people through various care programs.
“One of the fundamental changes has undoubtedly been to bring the Public Ministry closer to the people, to bring this institution closer to the most vulnerable people. Not only in the tax offices, in the victim care units, in the tables arranged on the ground floor of all the institutions headquartered by the Public Ministry in the country (…), but also in the street programs, in the actions What do we do like the Public Ministry visits your commune, which is the most recent; “The Public Ministry attends to your complaint in the parish, which visits hospitals, schools, preventive detention centers, and adjacencies of shopping centers, to serve our people,” he explained.
In addition, he stressed that since August 2017 to date they have issued 127 circulars, of which 79 are institutional of a legal nature and 48 of an administrative nature. Through these circulars “instructions are given on the organization and operation of fiscal agencies at the national level to update and unify criteria, establish clear and precise guidelines and standardize internal administrative processes, as well as avoid erroneous interpretation and application of the law.”
Strategic plan 2024-2031
The attorney general presented the strategic plan of the Public Ministry for the next seven years of management in order to give a new impetus to the institution and guarantee the speed and efficiency of the action carried out by the entity to provide a timely and effective response to the community.
“I want to present this strategic plan of the Public Ministry for this 2024-2031 administration. It has already been presented to all our general directors, line directors, senior prosecutors, to advance in a new stage, superior to the one we have known until now. Strategic lines of a structural and organic nature are defined here to give a new impetus to our institution,” he declared.
Regarding the program of the Public Ministry visit your commune, he stated that it has been a success in the country and that it will be done once a month.
Actions of the Public Ministry
The attorney general detailed that 36 corruption schemes linked to the oil industry have been investigated, in which 307 people have been prosecuted and 76 convicted.
He also reported that to date they have prosecuted 453 prosecutors. 21,871 people have been charged, 9,193 accusations were filed and 6,025 convictions have been obtained.
On the other hand, he indicated that they have managed to charge 2,707 people linked to human rights violations, 3,504 people involved were accused, 1,096 have been deprived of liberty and they managed to have 662 people convicted. He highlighted a decrease of almost 40% in complaints.
In terms of drugs, he specified that they managed to seize more than 300 tons of narcotic and psychotropic substances, and 7,097 convictions have been achieved. In the case of organized crime, they have carried out the dismantling or attacks on gangs such as Tren de Aragua, Conas, Wilmer Bachiller, among others; with 242 detainees, 187 arrest warrants, 35 convicted and 113 red alerts requested.
The attorney general emphasized the stopping of a plan to bathe the country in blood after the last presidential elections in order to seek foreign intervention. He added that the committee of victims of this violence was established and affirmed that they will do justice.
Other programs
In relation to the entity’s flagship programs, the prosecutor spoke about the one referring to the protection of older adults who, in just one year, have served 31,281 people and have achieved the restitution of 3,052 properties that were their property and had been illegally occupied.
Regarding the Pedophilia is Crime program, 2,042 activities have been developed and 84,381 people have been trained. At the same time, 2,614 activities have been carried out against bullying and 97,433 people have been trained.
In the campaign against drug consumption and trafficking, Drugs destroy your family, 1,741 activities have been carried out and 80,387 people have been trained. The Violence against women is not reconciled, it is reported campaign is added, in which 12,536 people have been trained; With the Public Ministry’s Protect Your Pet campaign, 1,636 cases have been attended to and 397 animal abusers have been apprehended.
The prosecutor announced the upcoming launch of the campaign Extortion is not negotiated, it is reported.
Support of the people
The prosecutor noted that the current management has been praised by vulnerable sectors for whom “access to justice in the past was literally impossible.”
“70% of those surveyed in Venezuela, when asked about the most credible institution, in which they have the most confidence, say it is the Public Ministry. That is what matters to us,” he reiterated and added that with the street services of the Public Ministry they have traveled the country 18 times, giving confidence to the citizen.
