This plenary was born as a response to the statements of former President Mauricio Macri and other former officials who “stigmatize and attack state companies,” but also as a message for the current efforts in cases such as that of Radio Nacional, where “salaries still persist below of the basic basket and situations of job insecurity,” they reported in a statement.

In the “emotional day” the fight against the 357 dismissals of Telam was remembered, four years after that historic victory, the fights against privatization in the nineties and during the Alliance government, they said.

And they pointed out that in the assembly experiences were exchanged and it was an instance to “charge energy and hope for the future.”

Within this framework, it was unanimously resolved “to reinvigorate coordination and unity to defend the media and all public companies as part of the defense of sovereignty”, and to carry out a campaign that “highlights their social role and the professional quality of their workers”.

In addition, the press workers decided “to reject the statements of Mauricio Macri, Pablo Avelluto and Hernán Lombardi, who tried to dismantle the public media between 2015 and 2019 and could not thanks to the struggle of their workers, the unions and a large number of sectors. of the community”.

Along the same lines, they demanded from the current management of Radio Nacional a “recomposition of wages that contemplates the loss of purchasing power and that all situations of job insecurity be regularized,” and they expressed the support of the Plenary of Public Media “for the measures that take the National Radio Assembly based on joint discussion”.

Finally, they expressed their solidarity with the press workers of the private media throughout the country “who today carried out a great day of struggle in defense of their salaries.”

Delegates from SATSAID from Canal Encuentro, Paka Paka and Depor TV also participated, as well as leaders from other state companies such as Pablo Biró, general secretary of APLA and pilot of Aerolineas Argentinas; Francisco “Pancho” Banegas, general secretary of ATE Ensenada; together with a delegation of workers from the Río Santiago Shipyard, Arsat, the Public Defender’s Office, the Association of Hierarchical Personnel of TVP (APJ) and Fabián Cardozo, president of the FEPALC Federation (Federation of Journalists of Latin America and the Caribbean); among others.

This plenary was held within the framework of a day of struggle carried out by press workers from all over the country, where they demanded “salary improvements” and included “assemblies and dismissals of tasks in the media of more than 12 provinces” to throughout the day, in addition to a concentration at the door of the Diario Popular, in Sarandí, Avellaneda district of Buenos Aires.
