Public Health warns residents of La Zurza not to use water from the Isabela river

Salud Pública advierte a residentes en La Zurza no usar el agua del rio Isabela

SANTO DOMINGO.– The Minister of Public Health, Daniel Rivera, suggested today to the residents of the La Zurza sector, in the National District, not to use water from the Isabela River for any activity after he found the vibrio cholerae bacterium, which causes cholera.

He assured that the water plants that were closed will be given the rigorous follow-up to verify that they comply with the necessary hygiene protocol.

Rivera also asked the population to raise awareness and collaborate with the provisions that the institution and other State agencies are recommending to follow prevention measures such as: frequent hand washing, washing food well and cooking it well before consuming it, drinking water adequate drinking water and if they have any diarrheal event go to their nearest health center for investigation and timely treatment.

Minister Rivera toured the sector La Zurza in the National District, to expand the interventions that are being carried out as a way to control and prevent the further emergence of new cases of cholera and other diseases in this area and surrounding areas.

Prior to the tour, he held a meeting with representatives of the Ministries of the Environment, Education, Public Works, as well as the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (CAASD), the Mayor’s Office of the National District and the Junta Funsa Zurza and Health Area IV; to refine the strategies that are being implemented to deal with the situation in the short and long term.

The Health authorities announced the installation of mobile hospitals to guarantee permanent assistance to the population that deserves it.
The head of Health said that all the place controls are being taken at the different levels together with these organizations, to make these measures more efficient.

“The country has been intervened since the cases appeared in Haiti and what we are doing now is intensifying and expanding these measures to have more safe results in the short and long term. And here we have intervened 200 houses and today we are going to install 20 water tanks permanently for the supply of drinking water” he highlighted.

He also reported that the four patients diagnosed with the disease are in good condition, since they are mild cases and were treated on time and with the usual treatment. At the same time, the Directorates of Health Area IV, Epidemiology and Risk Management, maintain the epidemiological fence, with close relatives.

The tour was also attended by doctors Ronald Skewee, director of Epidemiology, Gina Estrella, director of Risk Management, and Jesús Suardí, director of Health Area IV, among other collaborators who are part of the team that coordinates MISPAS actions. .
