Atallah, indicated through a video circulating on social networks, that chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito (the same one that transmits dengue and Zika) and that generally appears between 3 and 7 days after the bite.
He maintained that it manifests itself with high fever, intense pain in the joints (especially in the hands, feet, ankles and wrists) and general malaise.
However, he stressed that the disease It is not transmitted from person to personbut only through the bite of an infected mosquito.
The official emphasized the importance of prevent disease through mosquito controleliminating breeding sites, cleaning and covering water tanks, and collaborating with community fumigations.
He also warned about the risks of self-medication and recommended going to a health center immediately if symptoms appear.
“Chikungunya has a extremely low mortality and generally follows a benign course, although it can cause intense pain in some people,” Atallah indicated.
