SANTO DOMINGO.- The Ministry of Public Health notified this Sunday two new cases of cholera, bringing the total to 19, 5 of them imported. So far, the country has not registered deaths from the disease.
The institution informed through the Vice Ministry of Collective Health and its General Directorate of Epidemiology, that through the confirmation of laboratory analysis the two new cases of cholera correspond to two males of Haitian nationality, 26 and 9 years old respectively, both residents of a community in the municipality of Bánica, Elías Piña province.
The patients were admitted between January 12 and 13, after presenting whitish watery diarrhea accompanied by vomiting. Upon being admitted to the Municipal Hospital of Banica, they were hydrated and stabilized, proceeding immediately to take the stool samples, obtaining the positive result for cholera yesterday, Saturday, December 14.

The epidemiological report certifies that the patients recently returned to the country from Haiti, where they went on vacation, the two males have been without evacuations for more than 24 hours, remaining stable, in good spirits and with a good appetite, remaining hospitalized for observation purposes, with possible discharged in the next few hours.
Similarly, the Provincial Health Directorate of Elías Piña, together with technicians from the Vice Ministry of Collective Health and its Directorate of Epidemiology and Risk Management of the Ministry maintain the epidemiological fence, with close relatives, in addition to a permanent intervention in the areas to detect, prevent and investigate any suspected case of the disease.
According to the epidemiological report so far there are no relatives of the patients with suspicious symptoms of the disease.
