Public Health: maternal and child deaths decrease in 2024

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) reported this Thursday that in 2024 the maternal and infant deaths recorded a decrease in the country’s hospitals.

As for the maternal deathsone case was reported corresponding to a woman of Haitian nationality, while, on the same date last year, the accumulated total was 161 deaths.

In the case of the infant deathsthe accumulated to date is 2,056 deaths, a significant decrease compared to the 2,901 registered in the same period of 2023.

The Ministry He highlighted that during this year the health system provided more than 40 million health services nationwide, working to improve access to quality services and humanized care.

According to the National Epidemiological Bulletin corresponding to the Epidemiological Week number 50, no new cases of dengue were reported, keeping the accumulated total at 1,281 probable cases and an incidence of 12.48, reflecting a sustained reduction.

In matters of vaccination1,430 units were equipped with biologicals and priority supplies, ensuring coverage of the national vaccination schedule. Through the Essential Medicines Program and Central Logistics Support (PROMESE/CAL), 561.4 million low-cost medicines were distributed, and 7,243 people had access to high-cost medicines.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Ministry reaffirms its commitment to primary care and preventive healthin addition to advancing the objectives of the National Strategic Health Plan 2030focused on transforming the Dominican health system to guarantee universal coverage and equitable access to essential services and medicines.
