Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Public Health and Social Assistance (Mispa) and the director of the Teaching Military Hospital, Ramón de Lara, reported this Friday that the young inmate with monkeypox is progressing satisfactorily to the applied treatment, is stable and does not have feverish symptoms, fatigue, or other complications.
At the same time, they assured that no new cases of this disease have been registered in the country so far. While the people who have had contact with the patient have been evaluated, but do not show any signs.
During a press conference, Dr. Daniel Rivera and the medical colonel, José Darío Richardson, pointed out that the 25-year-old is stable, continues to evolve quickly and effectively to treatment, so he does not present anything new.

“The patient has had a satisfactory evolution, in a surprising way, thanks to the immediate intervention of the MSP and the care of the infectologist, José Ureña Vázquez, general practitioner,” he said.

Likewise, Dr. Rivera explained that this disease is only transmitted by direct contact with an affected person, for which he called on the population not to be alarmed, it is not detected by blood tests, but with a gallbladder test, for which he recommended that people who have had some direct contact with someone who has had meticulous injuries, go to their doctor and suggested not to self-medicate.
The Minister of Health reiterated his call to the population to continue applying the vaccination process with the corresponding second and third doses. While he assured that the government has the necessary medicines to face any virus.
For his part, the director of the Ramón De Lara Military Hospital pointed out that the center has adequate space to treat this type of patient, with the same protocols established by the World Health Organization (WHO/PAHO) and the MS, he said. that the patient has a satisfactory evaluation, however, he is prepared for any eventuality that may arise, but he is sure that no negative changes will arise.
He indicated that the patient must last 21 days, to complete the treatment. “But he is stable and asymptomatic, he will be discharged after the corresponding days have elapsed to continue being treated, if the evolution continues and without symptoms.”
Health authorities reported last Wednesday of the first imported case of “simian pox” in a 25-year-old Dominican national, who recently returned to the country from the US; and that he was isolated at the Doctor Ramón De Lara Teaching Hospital, where he received the pertinent treatment.
