Public consultation is held in Coclé on the draft concession contract between the State and Minera Panamá, SA,

The Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI), through the National Directorate of Mineral Resources, carried out a public consultation this Monday on the draft concession contract between the State and Minera Panama, SA, at the Sabaneta Community House , district of La Pintada, province of Coclé.

This consultation process brought together more than 200 residents of the areas surrounding the Cobre Panamá mine, local authorities and community leaders, carried out in accordance with Chapter Seven, articles 24 and 25 of Law 6 of January 22, 2002 “That dictates norms for transparency in public management”.

Minister Federico Alfaro Boyd led the consultation that also included the participation of the Minister of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel), Doris Zapata; the Minister of the Environment (MiAmbiente), Milciades Concepción; officials of the National Directorate of Mineral Resources of the MICI and executives of the mining company.

“To date, we have completed three extensive consultation days, where we have collected the concerns of the communities impacted by mining development and we have explained the impact of this new contract project, which would allow us to receive many more benefits, if we compare it with the previous contract. These consultations have been carried out in an open and transparent manner and we are satisfied with the high participation that has been achieved”, indicated the head of the MICI.

Similarly, Alfaro Boyd highlighted that the Ágora platform has registered around 20,000 entries and more than 200 comments, as part of this public consultation.
