The PT officially launched today (7) the pre-candidacy of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva with the former governor of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), as vice, to run for the Presidency of the Republic in the 2022 elections. In addition to Alckmin , who participated virtually because he had covid-19, leaders of the parties that support the candidacy were present, such as PCdoB, Solidarity, PSOL, PV and Rede, in addition to trade union centrals, social movements, artists, influencers and party militancy. The movement was called Vamos Juntos Pelo Brasil.
Alckmin spoke via video from home and said that “no difference from the past, no difference from the present, nor the disputes of yesterday nor any possible future disagreements will be reasons for him to stop supporting and defending with all conviction the return of Lula to the presidency. ”. “It is with great pride that I do this with the backing, trust and participation of my party,” he said.
In his speech, Lula said that this is a very special day for being able to gather all progressive political forces around a campaign. “I and everyone who is together with me have a cause that is to restore the sovereignty of Brazil and the Brazilian people.”
According to the former president, during his government, dialogue was the hallmark, with openness to civil society along with the ministries. “We will have to do this again and for that I present the immense legacy of our government. We have done a lot, but I am aware that much more is still needed and possible”.
coalition
PT, PCdoB and PV formed a party federation to contest the 2022 election. PSB, Alckmin party, Solidarity, Rede and Psol formed a coalition with PT. In the party federation, the acronyms are united for four years at the national, state and municipal levels and are equated with political parties and the parties must remain in the federation for at least four years or suffer punishment. The coalition has an electoral nature and is extinguished after the elections.
In coalitions, parties can only form a coalition to launch candidates for majority elections (mayor, governor, senator and president of the Republic). For proportional elections (councilman, state deputy, district deputy and federal deputy), it is possible to form a federation.
